Akita and Corgi mix often goes by the nickname Corgita. And you can come across all sorts of combinations of parent breeds names, e.g., Corgi Akita, Akita Corgi mix, Corgi mixed with Akita, etc. 

How big does Akita Corgi get?

In the case of each particular puppy, it all comes down to which genes are dominant. But since Akitas tends to weight anywhere from 70 – 130 lbs and be from 26 to 28 inches tall.

And Corgi typically weights way less – from 22 to 31 lbs and be as tall as 10-12 inches, you may expect variety for Corgita. So those pups can be anywhere from 25 to 100 pounds and be as tall as 12 – 25 inches.

Even though both parents are relatively smart, they are also can be stubborn and eager to take the alpha position. So training Corgi Akita mix can be a bit challenging. 

Training tips for your Akita Corgi mix

Since, as we’ve learned, these dogs can have that “alpha” attitude, it’s vital to establish your leadership and authority from the very beginning of the training process. Let them know their place. 

At the same time, you have to use positive reinforcement – be generous with treatos when Corgita does an excellent job. 

Another tip for training this mix is to keep the learning sessions short since your pup may get bored, and there won’t be much value to carry on the process in this case. 

Does this Akita mix shed?

Corgita dog will shed moderately year-round. But a bit more during spring and fall. 

Akita Corgi dog: grooming and care

Both Corgita’s parents have long fur, so be prepared to brush them a few times a week. And when the shedding season comes, you’ll have to stick to a daily brushing routine. 

Besides, trim or grind Corgita’s nails as needed, brush his teeth, and keep the ears clean to prevent infections. Nothing out of the ordinary – dog’s grooming business as usual.  

Akita Corgi mix: possible health issues

Make sure that you get your Corgi Akita Mix puppies from a responsible breeder who knows everything about the parent breeds to guarantee the puppies safe from diseases. Overall both parent breeds are susceptible to the following health problems: 

  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Various eye conditions
  • Von Willebrand disease

So the mix most likely to be prone to these ones too. 

Not all of the health issues are detectable in a puppy, so you can’t skip the regular vet check-ups. The faster you’ll catch on the disease, the easier it will be to prevent complications.  

Akita Corgi mix: is it right for you and your family? 

Corgitas are adorable and tend to deal well with kids and other animals. They are playful and affectionate and will enjoy spending time with you. They are also active dogs. So you have to keep that in mind since these pets will require some decent amount of exercise, and you have to be willing to commit to it.

Depending on the dominant genes, they may feel quite comfortable at the smaller apartments. Although if you have a large house with the yard that makes you and Akita Corgi Mix a better match.
