How big does Akita Pitbull get?

An adult male Akita Pit will weigh somewhere between 35 to 66 pounds, while female – from 30 to 60 pounds. And they can be as tall (or as short) as 16 to 23 inches at the shoulder.

Both the Akita and the American Pitbull Terrier are smart, so the training supposed to be a walk in a park. In theory. But, as I’ve mentioned above, the mix also happens to be a bit stubborn. And that can be a challenge to deal with during behavioral training and early socialization.

Training tips for your Akita Pitbull

It’s crucial to establish your authority with this dog. It means that you always have to be in charge: you decide which orders they will follow, where you will walk and at what pace, etc. 

Also, as with all the breeds, praise and rewards are very important to make the knowledge stick and to reassure the positive behavior. Do not give any treats Akita Pit if he or she does anything wrong though. And don’t get mad either. Keep giving the commands until the pup obeys.

Do Akita Pitbull Mix dogs shed?

Akita Pits are moderate shedders, and they do that all year-round. This indicates they are not allergy-friendly. And you have to take care of that coat regularly. 

Akita Pitbull Mix: grooming and care

Even despite regular (but low) shedding, the Akita Pit is a low-maintenance pet. Nothing major or crazy required for these dogs. You just have to make sure that you brush them weekly and give them an occasional bath when needed.

Check their ears for debris and pests daily and clean them as recommended by your vet. Trim or grind their nails before they start scratching your floors – usually once per month.

The Akita Pit is predisposed to some of the same conditions as its parents. While most are generally healthy, some may be prone to a few health issues. Some of the most common ones are progressive retinal atrophy, various heart diseases along with elbow and hip dysplasia. 

Some other conditions (less frequent, but still quite typical) are cataracts, bloating, hypothyroidism, etc. 

That’s why it’s essential to check out the health history of your pup’s parents and also go for regular veterinary checkups to ensure the dog will live the longest life possible.

When going for this mix, you are getting a loyal, brave, and protective companion.

The dog is ideal for families with children and other pets. With adequate training, the Akita Pit will get along practically with anyone. If you can start when your Akita-Pitbull Mix dog is a puppy, this increases the chances you will end up with a calm and well-socialized dog. The mix can do well in smaller homes, but they are best suited to bigger houses. And don’t forget that Akita Pit needs a lot of exercise too.
