  • Make sure that lessons are done on a schedule after your dog finishes playing, so he is calmer and better able to follow commands. 
  • Obedience training is a must, and you have to establish yourself as the leader and alpha from the beginning. 
  • Make sure that your Great Akita understands and follows one command before you teach him the next one. Reward correct behavior with affection and treats.

Do Great Akitas shed?

Akitas have thick undercoats that they shed twice a year, and Great Danes have thin coats that shed year-round. A mix of the two breeds is likely to have medium-thick coats that need regular grooming and sheds regularly.

Both Akitas and Great Danes are easy to care for dogs. The mix will require frequent brushing, and it is best to use a stainless steel comb made especially for dog grooming.

If your mix breed has a thicker coat, spritz it with water so that the fur does not fly all over when grooming and make sure that you groom your dog out of doors. 

Bath your dog sparingly and use only shampoos made for dogs, never use human shampoo on your dog’s coat. You will also need to brush your dog’s teeth at least twice a week to avoid tooth pain and other complications.
